Summer Safety Must Haves

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Pretty soon, families will head to the beach, camp grounds or amusement parks this summer.

But, safety expert Joe Godbout says there are some things you shouldn't leave without.

He shares some summer safety must haves for you and your family.

The Safety Turtle Wireless Wristband Alarm, $235. A combination of wireless signal-outfitted wristband and a wireless base station receiver that sounds an alarm the instant a child falls or ventures into the water. The base station can be positioned anywhere between pool/waterside and 1500 feet away (depending on model desired).

Baby Otter Pool Safety Awareness System, $19. Two DVDs, an animated one for kids called "Swimming Safety Rules for Kids. A second one for adults, "Is Your Child's Life Worth 10 Minutes?: A visual Pool Owners Guide". The children's video is designed to teach young children important points of pool safety in an entertaining way, helping them understand and remember as much as possible. The video for parents uses a step-by-step approach to give parents the right tools to safeguard their children and keep them from becoming a drowning statistic. Also included is a companion coloring book, designed reinforce the content of the children's DVD.

The Sport-Brella, $70. This unique umbrella gives you instant protection from the sun, rain and wind with it's domed shape, side flaps and 125 SPF. ThermaCell Mini Lantern, $10. It's the only pocket-sized, cordless, portable area insect repellent device on the market. Air Alert, $35. This device alerts drivers when their tires are getting low by immediately flashing when pressure has dropped 4 psi from the original pressure, improving safety and fuel efficiency. It's a small valve cap that replaces the standard tire valve cap and flashes brightly. It's visible to the driver from any angle approaching the vehicle.
